An infinite whiteboard that stays on your machine
Bracenest Canvas is a free, offline-capable drawing surface for sketches, diagrams and infinite-canvas notes. Pick the pen and draw; pick a shape and drag one out. Shapes are drawn in a hand-sketched style, so a quick diagram looks deliberate rather than unfinished. Add a text box, a table or a page card and you get the full Bracenest block editor inside it, not a second, weaker text engine. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and the board keeps working with the network off.
Is this an Excalidraw alternative?
It is built on the same two open-source libraries that give Excalidraw its
look and feel — roughjs for the hand-drawn shapes and
perfect-freehand for the stroke physics — without the editor
being a fork of it. The scene model is deliberately Excalidraw-shaped so
files can move between the two; import and export land with the export
work.
Can I use it from the keyboard?
Yes. V, H, P, R, O, D, L, A, T, B and C pick tools; Enter edits the selected text box, table or page card and Escape returns to the canvas; N steps through the shapes on the board; arrow keys nudge the selection or pan the view; +, -, 0 and 1 handle zoom; G toggles the grid. Tab is deliberately left alone so you can always leave the canvas.
Can I put text or a table on the board?
Yes. T drags out a text box, B a table and C a page card. A text box on the canvas is a real Bracenest editor — the same blocks, markdown shortcuts and keyboard shortcuts as the page editor — rather than a second, weaker text engine, and a table on the board is that editor's own table. Only the box you are editing is a live editor; the rest are drawn as plain text, so a board full of notes stays quick.
